South Africa’s Freedom Day Celebrations In East Africa
To mark South Africa’s Freedom Day in 2026, the community gathered at Céline & Lolo in Nairobi’s Lavington neighborhood. Celebrated on April 27th, the day honors the historic 1994 elections, the first time citizens of all races voted together marking the end of apartheid and the birth of a true democracy.
Tucked into a reimagined 1970s villa, Céline & Lolo’s hidden pool, lush gardens and Bistro Lolo brought a great atmosphere to the gathering. Over a French-inspired menu, old friends and new connections came together in celebration of South African heritage, equality and enduring freedom.
